There is a large variety of massage types, and the one that I practise is commonly called Swedish massage, or holistic massage. The aim of a massage treatment is to improve circulation, soothe muscles and improve relaxation. It is ideal if you are suffering from the physical consequences of stress such as tense shoulders and tension headaches, but it also helps to reduce emotional stress through relaxation. I use Neal’s Yard professional massage oil pre-blended with essential oils, or I can use unscented oil if you prefer.
An incredibly soothing treatment using preheated basalt stones; they are used for the massage itself and some can be used as a deep heat application through a towel. Because of the heat of the stones your muscles relax more quickly and it works deeper than a traditional massage leaving you feeling relaxed.
Indian Head Massage has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years, and it comes from Ayurveda, and ancient method involving natural therapies, which takes into account mind, body and spirit. It focuses on the head, neck, face, shoulders and upper back.
The treatment takes place on a chair, fully dressed, and can be done completely without oil. Alternatively I can use Neal’s Yard facial oil for the face and organic coconut oil for the hair to give it a nourishing treatment.
Indian Head Massage can help to relieve muscle tension in the head face, and shoulders, tension headaches and migraines, sinus congestion as well as helping with stress, anxiety and depression through relaxation.
